Treatments For Yeast Infection - Can You Get Rid of Your Yeast Infection?
Treatments for yeast infection have been around for decades and most women are highly treatable. In this article, I'll describe to you the variety of drug and non-drug treatments for vaginal yeast infection.
Drugs
The standard drugs prescribed for treatment of yeast infection are a group of drugs called "azoles". These have very strong anti-fungal properties.
They used to only be available on prescription but many of them can now be found over the counter.
Typically they come as a cream that must be applied to the inside of the vagina until the infection clears up. Some women prefer to use pessaries which are inserted into the vagina and slowly release the active ingredients. Pessaries come in varying strengths from single day to week-long varieties.
It is less common to take such drugs as capsules but this is seen more often in those women who have difficult to treat and/or recurrent infections.
Natural Cures
There are also a number of natural cures that can be tried. Typically these work the best for women who have problematic recurrent infections also known as RVVC (vulvovaginal candidiasis). Many of these women have been prescribed a variety of azole drugs over several months and while they have few problems in removing the main symptoms they seem to be less effective at preventing the infection from coming back.
One such natural cure are "live" or "active" yogurts or yogurt drinks. These are also known as probiotics. They help restore the natural levels of protective bacteria in the vagina. For example, these protective bacteria (and others in the gut too) are often wiped out by the use of antibiotics.
