How to Exercise the Brain
Perhaps you heard or believe you can exercise the brain. Perhaps you've mentioned this to someone you know and they look at you confused. You are right and correct in thinking we can exercise the brain just like our muscles and similarly enjoy increased strength, speed and stamina. The difference is that the benefits of muscular exercise are physically experienced, while the benefits of brain exercise are cognitively experienced. I don't know anyone who wouldn't want better memory, a faster response and more intellectual capability.
Cognition is similar to the idea of 'intellectual'. There are more differences between the terms then time allows us to discuss, but I wanted to draw the link in case the term cognition seems foreign to you. The discipline, known as cognitive science, is only decades old and is not well known, although due to Alzheimer's and a host of other reasons for cognitive impairment, the discipline is gaining attention and respect. If you are seeking information on how to exercise the brain for someone who is battling cognitive impairments, know this method helps many and can help you too.
In the scientific community, the utmost respect comes from having your theory, program or method, supported by clinical and scientific research. I'm not talking about a survey on a street corner, I'm talking about serious data crunching that, whether you enjoy it or not, indicates whether something is truly effective. The data is in and it is clear. The program called, Brain Fitness, which has two individual programs available, is shown to improve cognitive ability by taking users through brain exercises that were developed on our knowledge of how the brain learns and works (cognitive neuroscience). There's much to learn and more to exercise, so use your intellect and learn from a proven method only.
